Balance

"Where are the lines between satisfaction and excess, between restraint and indulgence, between pleasure and self-destruction? And why are they so difficult to find, particularly for women?"

Nice quote, but who said it?

I'm a man and I can say that I have some of the same struggles. It would be interesting to see the source of the quote to understand the context.

If you don't mind telling us, how do you struggle, from a man's perspective, with these issues?

It is because there are no lines. I've been so busy drawing lines between good and unacceptable that I've never realized that it is okay for something to be satisfying one day and excessive the next. It's about learning to listen to myself.

The greatest achievement is selflessness.
The greatest worth is self-mastery.
The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.
The greatest precept is continual awareness.
The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything.
The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways.
The greatest magic is transmuting the passions.
The greatest generosity is non-attachment.
The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.
The greatest patience is humility.
The greatest effort is not concerned with results.
The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go.
The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances.

Trying to find balance alone is like standing on a two sided scale and expecting it to be even. Without help from my Higher Power (no matter what that is) I cannot expect my eating or my perception of my body to be balanced.
Balance only comes when my mind has been cleared of the crap and stinking thinking that's been clogging it. It will only happen when I realize I'm not in control, never have been and ask my HP to take the wheel.
Balance needs to be learned. It needs to be practiced. It, like my body, needs to be fed good information, not the schtuff that I've been hearing all my life...
Balance is only achieved when I allow my HP to stand on the other scale and I can see who I really am.
It's achieved by doing service for others and giving to those that ask for help. I get balance only when my MIND has peace.
